Gloucestershire Wildfowlers Association News
Start of Season letter from Chairman
With the season fast approaching, I thought I would update you with what has been happening within the Association.
Firstly, we are now the 'Gloucestershire Wildfowling and Conservation Association'.
This was done to recognize the amount of conservation work that we as an association take part in. It also emphasizes that point to government and other organisations and agencies. On that note, we are currently in the initial planning stage of further work at Poulton Court that may be paid for entirely by grants. This is potentially a 5 year project and requires a lot of work by the committee.
We now have a waiting list of people wanting to join the Association. We limit our associate numbers, to ensure that people can get out and have good instruction on the ID course.
Marsh walks have just started for our associate members and will be taking place throughout the summer. New associate members where they can, are advised to attend these as it is a way to gain a knowledge of our marshes before the season starts and also a way of meeting other members of our association.
Associate flights are currently being organised and dates for these are on the web site and on facebook. These are an ideal way for new members to gain valuable information regarding marshes and register them in their red book/folder as completed for when they come up for full membership.
This year's bird Id course will again be taking place at WWT Slimbridge and will start in November (look out for details again on the web site, facebook and email).
Please contact Ian Whitehall to register.
After the success of previous year's Junior days, the GWCA will be running more. We are also in discussion with BASC and Hartpury College about hosting Wildfowling 'intro' days.
Work parties will be arranged shortly, dates to be notified, try and turn up, they are a great way to meet other likeminded members and help your association.
The password for the website will change to ********** from start of August. Please do not give this to anyone, but direct them to the club Secretary.
Keep watching the web site and newsletters for what is happening in the association and remember please volunteer to help out at Frampton Fair...It's only for a couple of hours on the day and your Association benefits greatly with the money donated from the organizers of the Fair. Contact Peter Crighton email him to volunteer.
Please remember that bag returns are for all flights - a nil return is required if you go out. Not submitting one hinders us when it comes to consents as we have less evidence that the number of flights causes no issue. A late return is the same as not submitting one and this may mean that you miss the start of the season.
I wish every member a great season of wildfowling and look forward to meeting up with you on the marshes. Straight shooting
